Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will I need?

How many sessions you do is totally up to you. However, as this is a learning process, depending on your wellness goals you will need to do enough sessions so that the learning/changes can consolidate. For every person, or brain, this number is different and varies dramatically from one person to the next. Some people notice early indicators of change at around 10 sessions, for some it can happen even earlier, for others 20 or 30 sessions or more are required for them to meet their wellness goals. When it comes to transformation, Dynamical Neurofeedback® is the easiest thing in the world, all you have to do is show up.

How long is a session and what do I need to do to prepare?

A session is 33.5 minutes long. There is absolutely nothing you need to do before or during a session. It is effortless!

My child is not able to sit still for very long, what can we do?

There is some flexiblity for movement, playing games, reading, or watching a movie during a session. We can discuss your child's personal needs (or yours) and together come up with a plan to support them in being comfortable throughout their session time.

Will I feel anything during a session?

As Dynamical Neurofeedback® is simply and elegantly mirroring your brain and offering it feedback, there is absolutely no signal, light, vibration, or stimulus of any kind entering into your brain. Therefore, you will not feel anything at all.

What happens during a session?

You will sit comfortably in a chair. Two sensors will be applied to your head, and three on your ears. You will also have earbuds in to listen to the music. You can sit back and relax, even sleep if you like. There is nothing for you to do. Children can read, watch a movie, do school work, or play at a table. As the music plays, you will hear brief micro-interruptions in the audio, this is technology providing the feedback to your brain. That's it! It's that simple yet transformative!

Do the benefits/changes last over time?

Once the brain knows how to do something (for example, reading, riding a bike, or surfing) it cannot un-know. Dynamcial Neurofeedback® is similiar: once the learning has occurred it is there long term. However, sometimes life gets bumpy, stressful, or there are other factors such as hormonal changes that can knock us off our balance. A booster session, or two or three, tends to get people back on track again so you can sleep easy.

Is it safe? What about side effects?

Dynamical Neurofeedback® has no way of creating side effects as it does not put anything into the brain, nor does it take anything out of the brain. It is a non-linear system meaning it does not train states, or manipulate or stimulate the brain activity in any way or form. In fact, it does not do anything to influence an outcome. It is entirely your brain adjusting itself towards optimization. For these reasons, it is safe and effective.

What if I am taking medications?

As the brain learns a more optimal way of functioning, some people find they need to adjust their medications. Similarily, some people find their sensitivity or tolerance for caffeine and alcohol also changes. Medications, dosages, and side-effects of over medicating, are topics for you and your prescribing doctor to discuss at your discretion.

Is this a brain game?

No, Dynamical Neurofeedback® is not a brain game.
